My parteners late husband owned a 1928 Talbot Darracq and on his death 9 years ago the car was sold. When my partener (Pat) was in Canada she met a friend of a friend who had an old Talbot, Pat remarked that she wondered where the Talbot was. He whipped out the Talbot register and told her it was in Colchester, not too far. Apon return Pat wrote to the present owner and got no response. One sunday I had been on a bike ride and pulled into the drive and there she was in front of me (the Talbot). The owners had moved to Wixoe which is 1 mile away. The car has had a lot of work done to her and has been to Montecarlo and Gibraltar. This morning Pat was at a local MOT centre booking in the MX5 and there was the Talbot and the owner. They had a chat and the owner told Pat that he is selling the car. Guess who bought it?

I am going to drive the Talbot in the morning. Crash box and where is the gear lever?
Should be fun. Spot the Kenlow fan. Talbot are known for overheating. It's not original but it stops the engine frying. |

| I did not have time to take the Talbot out this morning but we fired her up and she sounds a bit bottom endish but I believe they all sound like that. Has any one out there had a 14/45 Darracq? It could do with a bit of TLC but the mechanics are nice and sound. The previous owner (oh that sounds good) has spent a small fortune on the top end and brakes (about 8k). Thanks for all of the interest you have shown and I really look forward to seeing my new found friends at some shows this year. I am soooo excited. I think the Morris 8 is feeling very jealous. |

Superb
I would love something with running boards but all the ones I've sat in are a bit cramoped (I'm over 6ft and a big fella) . |

Hi Gillberry, the Talbot has wooden floors as do most of the pre war cars so you can move the seats back. The previous owner did this to the Talbot as he is a large fella and a tad over 6ft. This photo gives a better idea of the size of the car, that is why I am having to clear the garage. This is the previous owner in the car.
Lots of room in the back and a large box fitted over the petrol tank.
The wood panel fits onto the lightweight chassis. |

Nic,
Last nights episode of Poirot on ITV3 featured a Talbot saloon when Inspector Japp arrives at the crime scene in one. The episode was called 'Evil Under the Sun'. It might be getting repeated again today at 3pm.

Hey Nic,
The body looks in incredible condition going by the last photo of the driving side. It looks very much like a fabric body ??? The brakes should be pretty good going by the size of those drums and it must have a glorious burble with that fish-tail on the muffler.
Please describe your first drive in it for us all!!

Thanks Art but I spent the weekend in Brighton . With my girlfriend so I missed that one but I will keep an eye out for it.
Yes Keith it is a fabric body and it had a new body made in Canada so it is in pretty good shape. I can hear the sound of crunching gears already. |

| It's here. I asked all the right questions and found out it had Halfords Classic 20/50 in it, Oh dear. Lots of lovely detergent to circulate all the crud around the engine. I am off to get some API SB spec oil before I drive it. I was driven up the road and back to see how the gears worked. I am really looking forward to driving it but I will just have to wait. At 6K for a top end rebuild it's worth waiting. |
