If you were offered more than your car is worth would you sell it.
I dont know if I would or not because I have always wanted an estate and have put a lot of new and expensive parts on it and where would I get another one. Sometimes its not down to money. If you have restored your car from a basket case to pristine over a number of years you wouldnt sell it. I know I wouldnt.

If someone offered my 10x what it's worth I'd jump at it!

It depends really, on just how much more, and what they planned to do with it. If someone had offered me say 2x what the old A55 Cambridge was worth when I had it, then I may have accepted it, but if it was for b*nger racing then I'd have kept it.

I will not ever sell my car; it's cost me too much time, thought and energy.

If I could I would be buried in it (if I ever die, that is) like they used to do with Chieftans and their chariots in the old day.

Everything has its price. If someone offered substantially more than I've put into the restoration of my Riley I'd probably take it and use it on the other one Laughing

I'd never sell my green mini, it was purchased new by my dad and its exactly one year bigger then me. Its also the only car my father ever had and for me its part of the family!! The others I'd probably sell, then buy something else with the money!!

I think a lot of us would only sell our cars if we needed the money. I'm not wealthy, but I don't need money urgently, so why would I sell cars that I have rebuilt, driven and enjoyed for years?

Regading the Black "thingie"
people are always saying "that car must be worth a lot of money, being a one off ? " .
I politely answer "maybe, but its the car & its history I have interest in, not the money" .

But as already stated is all a matter of how HIGH the amount/bid is ?

My problem is that I could never find another, there are only a very few cars with interesting history, and most of these have already been found.
Denmark being a small country, with the worlds highest tax on cars, its hard to find many rare/interesting cars here.

The big 20-30-40-50ies expensive cars are all in the hands of wealthy collectors - in museums, or sold out of Denmark.

Here is 2 examples, of the original 6 Merc 300 SL that were imported to Denmark, non is left, all is bought by forign collectors.

In the 80ies, Swedish US car collectors already saw where things were going, so they came to Denmark bringing big 2 deck car transporters.
They cleared all the car dealers & scrapyards for any US car they could find.

This situation brings about a moral question, if an offer is too good to be true it may in fact be too good to be true.

There is a danger that an unrealistically high unsolicited offer may in fact be a money laundering exercise by the unscrupulous.

If you get an unrealistic offer it may be very attractive to take but it could be 'dirty money'.

They may buy your car for a high sum and sell it on for a lower amount, but the proceeds will be 'cleaner'.

Take care,if in doubt ask your bank for advice. If you do not show an element of due dilligence you could become party to the laundering.

Money isn't everything. Smile If your car/vehicle makes you smile (at least most of the time), why bother parting...

I don't think I would. Smile

Sell my Mistress - are you mad... Laughing

Moral question....money laundering....due diligence.... In the hypothetical world that this offer was made, such things don't exist! In any case, who said this was a hypothetical 'cash only' transaction?

Even in the real world, if someone offered to buy my Riley for substantially more than it's cost me to date, those would be the last things I'd consider. I'm sure that's true of just about everyone who has contributed to this thread.

As for asking a bank for advice on how to pay a bill Laughing I've closed an account when a bank manager told me I couldn't withdraw a couple of thousand pounds in cash to pay a bill. Banks should realise they serve their customers, not the other way round.
