I like to attend car shows and talk to other car owners about their cars and what they have done to them since the previous year. I often get people coming up and offering me spares that they have had lying about their garage. I have had the odd complete car to tow away for spares. I like raking the autojumbles as well. Do you show your car...or not.

dont mind shows ,but not into clubs as such now. too clique for me .i like to talk to different people about things cars etc .i had a mk2 jag went to a show pulled up in her on the club stand because i wasnt wearing the pringle jumper and played golf they didnt speak to me or the wife . my car was better than most of theirs but i didnt fit the criteria of dress and code dont you know .what what, what. Laughing the wife was in the hillman club when she first had it, but didnt get much out of it to be honest so hasn't joined again .i did join the c,o,o.c when i bought the oxford but wont be joining again next time. i dont get much out of clubs .i run mine everyday and can't be bothered with club runs at weekends, mind you there's none in mid wales anyway . theres quite a few classics about here, but you dont see them, they only come out in summer and thats when its dry.the only other one used everyday here is my friend ed's morris 1000 he does 45-50 miles a day going to work in aberystwyth and back then back to mach to pick his wife up from work . Cool

I'll put my cars in a show, provided I am not expected to pay. Anybody is welcome to look at, and hopefully enjoy seeing my vehicles at any time, but I will not pay to display, on principle - ever! There is no show without the cars!

I have to agree with Welshrover about clubs. I am a member of four and I often ask myself why. They are all full of cliques and there are more politics involved than in Canberra. Sometimes I think that some members are more interested in sniping at each other than in restoring and using our old cars!

Forums such as this one seem to be replacing clubs in many ways.

We do a number of local gatherings, I can't say I've found any of them to be cliquey if I'm honest. We tend to prefer events that either incorporate a road run, or at least offer the chance to watch cars being driven around in a display area.

Steam Rallies!

I do lots, but do quite like playing locally

Some Clubs can be a bit awkward, but it is important to get to know others with similar interests, I tend to join a different club each year. Limit it to one club too. Gets expensive else.

I enjoy the shows.
I prefer the more informal types, mostly for charity.
And the wings and wheels events with a good air show, at least with a show car you get a reduced rate to the air show.

I love it when I'm told all knowingly, "Oh yes I remember those" having just been told it's a DLM 'one of' special'
Or, as some have said, being told that is a wrong part for that model.
Being one of special who's to say what is the right part for that make Laughing Rolling Eyes
The only three parts not original when bought are the control box RF95 to RG106. If I knew someone able to rebuild the RF95 I'd fit that again.

Also the rear axle from an unknown 1930 Morris to a Ford 100e and silencer, but that was missing so can't say what was on it.

Got most weekends booked, most free and those that are pay to show the fee is going to a charity.

Usually do the national show with the landcrab, but that is all nowadays. I also refuse to pay for others to look at/criticise my car. Haven't shown the Moggy for a few years now. Am a member of national MMOC as it gets me 20% discount on insurance for all my cars, but no longer a member of the local club. Most local members don't even speak to me as I didn't fit in with their clique. A few years ago I used to be webmaster for the local branch, but at the time couldn't attend meetings for domestic reasons. I did manage to drag myself along one evening when to chairwoman asked me to leave as I was no longer a member. Their website closed down that night!

I do tend to show my Jowett, but again fairly close to home and usually slightly tongue in cheek, flying the flag for Yorkshire's motor industry. Frequently I am the only Jowett present so I am in a clique of 1! Laughing
I do not mind paying to enter so long as the sum is not extortionate and you get an attendance plaque/programme etc in exchange. Having been on both sides of the fence on this I know of the problem of "no-shows" - you organise an event and get lots of entries only to find that a more prestigous show down the road sucks all your entries away. Amazingly if you ask for a modest entry fee most folks who enter turn up and as has been pointed out no cars = not much of a show.
So to conclude - I suggest that you all get Jowetts don't attend shows where a fellow owner is exhibiting, and in true Jowett fashion, dont take yourself and your hobby too seriously - its meant to be fun!

And you wonder why club stands don't welcome you with open arms Shocked

Anyone with a prickly ego shouldn't show a vehicle, you have to be prepared take the criticism as well as the compliments.

he wasnt even showing it, thats the point he was in the car park .and the reason why the jaguar club wouldnt talk to me and the wife is as soon as they knew we weren't from there (england )that was it . i didnt want to bring that up .but when i overhear somebody call me a sheep shagger from a supposedly fellow club member, i get a bit upset especially when iv'e travelled 3 hours to get there . Mad

I'm with you Larry. I attend lots of shows & have met/made friends with lots of people from other clubs. I find other club members take an interest in your car which is reciprocated by me. I have never had any trouble with cliques but maybe we are different up here. I do go to one show in the south at Stamford & find the people there friendly too, cheers,JD.

I show my cars by driving them in the Summer, obviously not that often given the current Summers.

The BSA front wheel drive Club is a great club to belong to. Very friendly. Most helpful with spares and help.

The Landcrab club is pretty good, never attended a meeting but the spares Guru Tony Wood is worth the subscription.

The JEC too many people who have work done for them by garages. Also they have to cover too many models to sustain my interest.

I intend to let my subscription lapse this year

Regards Kels.

Very rarely attend shows as I find them a bit boring, probably I'm as much to blame as I'm not a people person....or at least not for any great length of time. Absolutely never pay to get into a show in fact before now I have happily turned around at the gate and driven off. If I do turn up anywhere I will wander round and have a look at what is going on, grab a coffee and bun and then go on my way.

Agree fully with the showing the car by driving it on the road.

As for 'cliques' the worst I ever came across was the Audi clubs....what a load of k&£b heads.

As I say I know, and respect, that some folk like nothing better than sitting in a chair for the day relaxing and chatting....afraid I can't sit still that long.
