I have a query here and would welcome comments but not lectures.

In a friends barn there are several boxes of New old stock Brake Pads and Shoes. Many of these brake parts are for cars of pre 1980s. There are quite a few brake linings for the Bedford TK too. They are in good condition and still in the original boxes.

Now I know you are not supposed to sell old brake pads because some had asbestos in, but it does seem a shame to dispose of them when they could be put to good use in an older vehicle. If I do have to dispose of them it will be done legally.

Any thoughts on this.

No law against selling old brake linings , eBay is full of them.

Thank you very much for the replies. Once again you guys on here have come up trumps.

The reason I was going to scrap them was told sometime ago by someone that he had been to an autojumble and some jobsworth had told the guy selling old brake pads shoes etc that he can't sell them and must dispose of them at a licenced place and have paperwork to prove it.
Perhaps it was just a story then.

Shame as I have had these brake parts for a few years but did not want to get fined for selling them. They could have gone to good homes.

I will have to go through them now and if I find any for pre 70 cars and trucks I will let you know.

Thanks again

I think it happened right enough - if memory serves there were a lot of stories along the lines of "death of the autojumble" - but it seems to have been one or two isolated incidents, basically the odd overzealous council (Kent?) jobsworth throwing his weight around, and it doesn't seem to have come to anything. You should be fine, still plenty of this stuff out there both at events and on fleabay.
