Its a shame the way these guys totally wreck perfectly good old cars. There is nothing worse than watching Morris Oxfords and A125 Sheerlines to name a couple getting totalled.
If I was selling an old car I would want to make sure it wasnt going to be banger raced but there is no real way of checking.
Some of them are offered to clubs for spares but the damage is done. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

It is a shame, yes, but I dislike seeing classics which have been customised as well.
During half term weekend this year a convoy of four drove through the village.
It comprised of a Mark 1 Consul "lowrider", a black Ford Popular with huge rear wheels and small front ones complete with "flames".
A 105E Anglia with bulbous wings and huge alloys and a HA Viva van with lurid graphics.
Each to his own, of course, but not for me. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Do banger racers wreck perfectly good cars? I've never met one to ask, never been to a banger race to see. 'Perfectly good cars' get crushed every day of the week, it's just that they don't have a piece of paper called an MoT pass certificate and/or aren't economical to repair. I suspect that may be true of most cars used by banger racers.
As for custom cars, people like to express their individuality and personality. If we all wore the same clothes, had the same hair style and decorated our homes the same colour it would be a very, very dull world. Same with cars - thank goodness. |

I wouldn't have a problem with banger racing if (and its a big if!) the cars were genuinely beyond saving.... however its very subjective....many cars would not be worth saving in terms of paying for a professional restoration and then expecting the cars value to exceed purchase and restoration costs but many could be restored at home... where and who draws the line?
Anyone with a "spares car" has made the decision that the vehicle is never going to go back on the road...whats the difference?
I would like to see (and assume there is not) identity checks to confirm the car is not stolen.
At the end of the day folk can do what they want with their own property (and we don't want legislation to say they can't!!) for preservation we would have to have something akin to "listed building" status applied to older cars...more legislation ?
