Rover SD1 with the V8, yes, but that 6 cylinder was such a bad design it should be part of the Where Did It All Go Wrong thread and the 4 cylinder version was so underpowered, it wouldn't pull a greasy man out of bed.

The last TVRs must be strong contenders especially the Cerbera and the Chimaera.

I've been tempted for years to buy one but the tales of unreliability and costly servicing and repairs are always in my mind.

It isn't until you stand close to one do you realise how low to the ground they are.

But the sound of those engines.........................Wow!

Ellis,

I second your views. TVR gets my vote.

Larry,

Sadly no more. Some Russian playboy bought the company and I think he had plans to take the assets abroad and make them there but 'down the tubes' is where it ended. Sad Sad

Shocked

I hadn't read about that before. Good heavens!

Something similar happened to a local farmer some years ago.
He's always had something special as a hobby car and at one time he bought a nearly new Lotus Eclat.

I recall he'd owned it for a year or so and one morning drove it towards the village on an errand. He first smelled and then saw smoke inside the vehicle and it stopped of it's own accord. In his own words he made a "sharp exit" only to watch his Eclat bursting into flame. By the time the fire brigade arrived the car was completely destroyed and when they doused what was left of it only the chassis and engine block remained.

He didn't buy another Lotus.

I admit to being a bit biased, but the last true classic is surely the Classic Range Rover V8 from 1994?

ive had 6 range rover classics from the 70's 2 doors to the LSE of 1993 .then that bmw thing came out the p38 and that was the end of range rover. shyte electrics dodgy air suspension faulty compressors .you know the the usual bmw electronics problems electric seats , mirrors, sunroof, that stupid imobiliser that either locked you out or wouldnt let you lock it if you were near anything that emitted microwaves or radio waves .unless you moved it a half mile out of the range of that sort of thing on a trailer then you could start it . ask me how i know, i had one for three days, it went back. and i bought my 93 LSE for the quarter of the price and had it for years .i only sold it two years ago .. also i forgot they put that crappy 2.5 6 cylinder bmw diesel engine in it .the old tdi one in the classic was a better engine by far . they did keep the v8 in it but with catylytic converters that strangled it . killed the v8 rumble and the cats lasted 12 monthes if you were lucky. they were poor very poor indeed. Shocked i had the 4.6 v8 in mine they were also probematic with slipping cylinder liners :and overheating . oh did i mention it looks like an expensive metro cab .
