My dad did, I remember he had that set in both the dark bakalite and ivory. £12 in 1948! That must have been 2 weeks of the average workers wages! Imagine paying over £1000 for a radio these days !

Only have a few left now - lost track of how many I have repaired over the years.
Bush MW/LW set
Invicta battery powered portable with mains converter
Racal RA17 47 valve HF receiver
Pye cambridge tranciever converted for 2m amatuer band use.( Have had this one over 40 years now).
And a few valve car radios somewhere in the loft.
And some very old test equipment -
Oscilloscope
Wobbulator alignment generator
Audio power meter |

I have a cream Bush (Busch!!!) 90A beside my bed. Excellent sound...no external aerial required..no FM! Local radio and certain others stations only. (Also have another one in the loft in working order)
Roberts R500 portable SW, MW, LW in working order around the house.
Ekco U319 also in working order but unused.

I have an HMV portable wind-up gramaphone. (Probably just pre-war) It works well and I often listen to some really old 78's on it! The volume control is brilliant - you shove a couple of socks into the trumpet!

Hi Peter,
nice website if you have interest in old TV,s did you then see "Kröniken" = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kr%C3%B8niken
Its one of the best tv series that DK ever made, and had FAR more wiewers than the other DK series, that have been shown in UK.
Some episodes had 2.7 million wiewers, thats almost half the population here.
It has some nice details on both building & using film / tv gear, from the 40ies, upto early 70ies. _________________ http://www.eurods.eu/wp/index.html |
