Very very nice but how much will be left of the original car, when one of these greedy "bling" garages have restored it _________________ http://www.eurods.eu/wp/index.html |

Exactly. For the parts that are available new, most restorations companies do not bother to look at the condition of the old part but throw it away and buy new.
Often the quality of new parts is not the same as the original part.
I hope this rare E-type gets a sympathetic restoration, where most original parts are restored / overhauled instead of replaced. |

The crazy thing about this story is that it actually fetched £109,020 at auction. I've loved E-Types since I first saw them in the early 60's, it's my all time favourite car, but the prices they are currently selling for is madness.
I shudder to think what it will be offered for once it comes to market after restoration. |

Is it bad that I read the title and one of these immediately sprung to mind?

Just buy an XJS, you can have the same running costs as an E type very cheaply, once you are driving it you can't see the outside it could be an E type.
I have one and can confirm they turn heads. and the screws on the wallet.

Well 50's saloons are my thing, most sports cars don't do much for me (especially MGB's, which I can't stand). Far too common. If we all liked the same cars it would be a very boring forum _________________ Richard Hughes |

Jaguars from mid 1950's do nothing for me either.
Having said that I had an XK150, fixed head, for a while in Germany in 1967, stolen before I came home.
Mind you I do like the new F type, am I allowed to say that on here |

I saw one of those today, looked very bland in white, but probably looks ok in more positive colours. I preferred the brg XK120 fhc parked nearby, complete with leather bonnet straps and painted wires
