For a long time i have wanted a Volvo Amazon.. I wanted an estate but as I have a SAAB estate and the hunt for a 123GT failed my hunt criteria changed.
I contacted a guy I know loves his Volvos and due to a change of circumstances he had a former "project car" for sale.
I had to see it after a few pics were sent to me and It was love at first sight!
I'm hoping to collect it tomorrow..

It's been off the road for about a year and it has a sticky caliper..a new caliper kit is on it's way and all going well it will be MOT'd for Easter....but that's only if it gets collected tomorrow.

Looks like a beauty, good find!!! Cool

Four-door saloons have fully galvanised sills too, so a better bet than the two-door in that respect.

John - Welcome to the select group of Amazon owners on OCC! Looks a nice one.

Rick - I have never seen mention of differences in the construction of 2 and 4 door cills. Any reference to your source?

Hi Brian

I've read it somewhere before now, probably at the time I bought my four-door some 20 ( Shocked ) years or so ago. The sills on the four-door extend the full way along below the doors, and I'm sure were galvanised, whereas iirc the rear 1/3(ish) of the "sill" on the two-door is part of the rear wing pressing, and as such wasn't galvanised.

It may have been in the Practical Classics buyers guide that I read it donkeys of years ago, I'll see if I can find it again. Of course I could be completely wrong Smile

The join on two-door cars is visible in side-on shots, eg

The lower section ahead of the rear wheel is part of the wing, rather than of the sill.

while on the four-door, the galvanised sills run the full length, below the doors.

It's home and i'm still discovering good/bad bits, mostly good.
A few rust bubbles under the paint, the rear lower 1/4 panels have been fitted wrong.
The MW/LW radio has had FM internals fitted Cool
I have a busy week at work but i'm going to try and do a few late nights to see what's what.
The most important thing is that Sarah loves it and want's to drive it ASAP..there are very few of my classics that she has approved of so quickly Very Happy

The history file is fantastic..from the Devon Reverand who bought it new..all of his address changes and it's trip up and down the South coast.
It has a full service history book and it's original green log book.
Sorry if I'm waffling on but I'm chuffed to bits.

"The Dragon" was about to be the next project but "Olaf" the Volvo (no idea where the name came from but it's painted on the rear bumper) will take up this Easter weekend...hopefully I will get onto The Dragon again when the weather gets better...but that's for a different post. Wink

It must be grat to have so much history, we had nothing so went to the DVLA and got as much as we could from them but as Simon keeps saying we make our own history with her from when we got her to how she is now
