The Imp is lovely
I don't know how George sleeps in it, he's quite tall and it's certainly snug |

Great photographs of a great weekend. I just wish we'd come on Thursday and left on Monday like most other people! |

The Historic Caravan Club National Rally at Ripon was fantastic with a FULL ON weekend.
The trip out on Saturday included a vintage bus ride and travel by train complete with tea and cakes as we went along.
The Sunday auction was as good as ever, some gems amongst the tat but the banter is extra special.
Sunday dinner was at the Spa Hotel in Ripon, first class meal on white linen circular tables with views over the garden.
It just went so fast!
We attended the rally in our 1926 Angela caravan covering 165 miles in just 4 hours an average of 41miles per hour.
Many thanks to this years organisers...... join the club and see what you are missing! |

What is a Royale caravan doing at a HCC event.
I remember arriving at a steam rally about ten years ago with our 1967 Jaguar MK2 plus Carlight caravan 1969.
The organisers of the event told us to park with the other caravans on display.
I set up a lovely display of bygones plus pre war vintage cycles we had carried in the caravan.
In the morning a bunch of people went over to the organiser demanding we were thrown off the site, when the organiser told them we were to stay where he put us,we were then told by the club members that they had inspected our chassis plate on the caravan whilst we were absent, the year did not meet their strict code and we were never to be made welcome at a rally they attend and display at ever again.
As for displaying vintage cycles outside our caravan we were told we ought to be over the other side of the rally field with the local vintage cycle club.
Perhaps some of these arrogant law enforcers are no longer associated with the club.
When I attend shows now with our pre war caravans, pre war tents, vintage cycles and bygones, we book our own display area with the organisers of the shows and do our own thing.
Obviously the HCC have relaxed their dress code.!!!

Hi Gresham,
Apologies for upsetting you, perhaps my title was misleading.
It was not a HCC Event, it was the National Rally, Get Together, Social (call it what you want) for HCC members and were celebrating 20 years of the HCC.
As it was a HCC Social - I'll use that, you could come in a modern caravan, motorhome, pop-up caravan (and some did) even a Royale if you wished, no dress code required. I cannot comment on the vintage cycle, I don't know the couple, perhaps it is displayed with other vintage cycles when they attend events.
I don't know what area you are from but certainly in the North you would be welcomed at our events and displays without hesitation or problem.
The HCC have relaxed their stipulation on ages of caravans, details are on their website.
In the 18 months I have been in the HCC I have never had to dress up for one of their events.

what a pleasant well worded response Darren,
Don't think i would have been so nice, there you are going to the trouble of posting good pics for the forum to enjoy ,only to get your thread hijacked , for a gripe about the club, And for something that happened 10 years ago ! we all had run ins at steam rallies Gresham get over it ! lifes to short mate
carry on with the good work Darren ...OVM |
