hi
new to the forum. had all sorts over the years but for the last few been into early mk1 mazda eunos
been hankering after a return to the veteran and vintage type shows that i used to attend with some classic bikes. started to look round for a project that was sound, needed recomissioning and mechanical work but not bodywork (dont mind paintwork)
after a chat with my dad (81y/o) he suggested i spoke with an old friend of his.
had that chat and he still had the singer vogue that he bought in 1967!. its a 1965 mk3, bought new by a mr Baden Caldecott of wrexham.
its has been dry stored since 1989 with 60k on the clock.
it will be trailered to my workshop in the autumn for recomissioning works ready for next spring.
worst issue is a series of microblisters on the paintwork, will prob end up having some paintwork done if i can find some1 who can do work on older cars. this car has no rust (been coated and coated in old oil inc all the cavities) and never been welded.
cant wait to get started on her. oh, and if there is any1 who does paintwork and lives in the northwest (im in Llangollen area) please feel free to contact me

Welcome great to find such an original car, re the paintwork are the blisters in the original paint?

hi dave (and thanks)
i suspect the blisters are not in the original paint. the former owner was a serial tinkerer who spent many hours injecting the various sections with oil etc and i suspect he has blown a few of the panels over. gonna wait till i get it home and do some investigation with 2000 grip wet and dry. what id really hope for is to be able to flat it right off and have it repainted without the need for a full bare metal respray?
will need an expert to advise me tho

No, its the earlier 1600. Autobox as well. |

I bet you could have had some fun if the number plate was 785C instead..
I like the Sunbeam Rapier,Humber Sceptre and the Vogue.
A lot of people see my Sceptre from a distance and say "My dad had a Vogue".
Similar, but thank good old Rootes for designing subtle changes.
Good colour too.

thats welshrover, where u live then?
finished work early today so thought id try a bit of work on the vogue.
the bloke i bought her off died suddenly a few weeks back and seeing as its still in his house made it a bit tricky. i rang his wife today and she was fine about me going down there.
went down with the new battery and fresh petrol in hand. checked the oil and water, cranked her several times with the ht lead off to circulate the oil and ....shes alive. had a bit of a fire scene out of castaway..superb.
running lumpy but ive ordered a set of plugs (she has electronic ignition) plus a spin off oil filter and will see if i can sweeten her up the weekend.
if alls well im aiming to get her up on axle stands and run the autobox through a few selections.
no brakes, but was going to replace the components anyways, just makes loading her onto the transporter a bit more of a challenge.
all the electrics are fine inc the 8 track stereo
this is the master cylinder in case any1 has a new one they are wanting to sell

finished work handy tonight, new spark plugs and leads had been delivered so popped down to where the car is stored (same place since 1967 actually).
fitted the plugs and fitted the new leads, bought them off the interweb and i must say im not very happy with the quality so they will be a temp fitment until i can source some better ones..probably some magnacor in black.
anyways, she is now running lovely. took the air filter housing off so i could get penetrating oil on all the essential bits and pieces.
so, with her running smoothly i noticed that if i pumped the brake (automatic box here) i could get a bit of a pedal. the handbrake seemed to be working but the brakes were jammed on.
decided to chock the wheels and see if i could select drive. (car has been stored in neutral)
tentatively applied the handbrake and put her into drive, had that satisfying drop in revs and you could feel the drive selected. back into neutral and into reverse..alls well so far. ended up trying all selections and all is well.
still running lovely, into drive...brakes jammed, into reverse and drive a few times and ...forward we go...shes moving for the 1st time since 1989!!.
didnt push her too much, just up and down the yard a few times then the fuel pipe from the petrol pump to the car decided it had had enough and split..so ended the trials..great feeling and a bit closer to getting her back to my workshop in a few weeks
