not sure if this is the correct section but here goes.

always fancied getting one of those mechanics car wing protectors for when i am working on the engine etc.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Silverline-380102-Car-Bodywork-Wing-Protector-Scratch-Repairs-Magnetic-Cover-/310700522879?pt=UK_Car_Exterior_Accessories&hash=item485731bd7f

does any1 here use them and how do you get on with the magnetic function? does the magnet attract metal filings etc that will in turn scratch the paintwork?
any tried and tested makes?

thanks for looking

Personally I wouldn't us them having had one of my car's wings scratched by them at a restorer.

You have to use a bit of common scene when using them; check that they are clean and that the wing is also clean, they have a soft backing so shouldn't do any damage.

I find them useful as they protect against zips and buttons + the magnets will also retain small items like screws and washers place on the top of the cover.

Hi Kevin, I just use a couple of old cotton sheets - no danger of scratching &
easily washed. You need to store the magnetic wingtectors away from any grinding etc. Cheers,JD.

This is my concern JD, i will see how i get on with them initially. Got sone strong bags to roll them up and store away when not in use.
