Beer only for me. I never touch wine or spirits and although it may be sacrilege for some to read this but I don't even like the smell of Whisky let alone it's taste.
Beer though, that's different.
Newcastle Brown is my favourite although it doesn't taste the same as when it was "fermented" on Tyneside. It is known as "The Chemical Beer" after all or as "dog" on Tyneside.
Real Ales yes but I also enjoy cold lagers - Stella, Effes, Cobra, Kronenberg, Grolsch and I'm very partial to Italian lagers as well notably Nasto Perroni.
Adnams and Ruddles ales are nice but you don't see them often on draught or in cans or bottles in shops. A pity.
London Pride is nice too............

If you are offering! A pale ale like Discovery or Old Specled Hen, a nice red Rioja , followed by Talisker (whiskey)

Real Ales: Abbott is excellent and widely available.
London Pride also widely available and pretty good.
I'm not gone on session beers.
Nostalgia has me lusting after a good pint of Eldridge Pope Royal Oak.
Sadly long since defunct but from memory it was unsurpassed.
I'm not a lager drinker and I like my beer at room temperature.
Can't stand added CO2.

Believe it or not I am a teetotal Scot. None of my parents took a drink so I never bothered. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I can quite believe it. Many members of my family are too - Calvinistic Methodists.
I'm the black sheep of the family. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Black sheep.... my favourite beer in the whole wide world comes from the Black Sheep Brewery, their Imperial Russian - closely followed by Hoegaarden. |

Nowadays I am confined to red wine. My diabetes and the sugar in beer prohibits me from drinking it Black sheep is great. Have toured their brewery (a few years ago, on an outing organised by the local vicar!)
Broon hasn't been the same since they closed the Tyne brewery and moved production over the river to the Fed brewery. That too has now closed so dear Broon is just another production beer from Tadcaster.
Locals only ever drink it from a half pint glass, keeping it topped up to maintain the head. Known as 'dog' because the males would tell the wife they were just walking the dog when they went to pub.
My father was a Methodist preacher so no alcohol was ever allowed in the house whilst I was growing up. I have more than made up for that over the past 60 years!! |

| Another non drinker here, well not quite non drinker, I may have a wine or sherry on special occasions - maybe once a month. My late father was an alcoholic and I saw first hand how evil drink can be. |

| My dad was a heavy drinker too, he died when I was 18. That put me off, a couple of bottles of real ale at weekends is about my limit. If I do touch spirits I find bourbon is much more mellow than scotch |

I must say that I do enjoy a drink! I am also a creature of habit, so at this time of year it's a G&T and something of a ritual........
Strictly 50ml of Tanqueray with 150ml of Tonic. Slice of lime, wiped around the rim of the glass before dropping inside on sealed (re-usable) ice cubes......... Lovely!
On October 1st and through to St David's Day the gin is relegated to the back of the cabinet in favour of a single malt... Talisker or Glenkinchie.
Again one double measure is enough, but what a pleasure!
As for beers, it's lager when in a can at home or a real ale when out and about.
Strange how barmen serve you lager when you ask for 'beer' |
