Does any one have experience of the renu process used by Harlepool radiator Co. They sound like they know there stuff but wondered if any one has personal experience. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Spike2

A company in Leeds did the Renu process on my truck's twin tanks. They blasted them, and cut access panels into them (optional) to give the insides a good cleaning out too. They then welded up the access panels. As my tanks are out of sight this wasn't an issue, but you can see where they were opened up and re-sealed, so perhaps this part isn't suitable for where tanks are visible when on the car.

The internals were then coated with something ceramic, and apparently alcohol-resistant (important).

The outsides were treated with a rubberised coating. Again, if the tank is on show on the vehicle, perhaps paint would be the better option.

Each tank was given a unique serial number, these tie in with the lifetime guarantee that the firm provide.

Given how shot my tanks were, and the cost that re-making them would have incurred, I was pleased with the job.

There are a couple of photos on the main site:

Unfortunately the petrol tank on my Commer lorry was way beyond saving. I looked into having it coated but was told it was not possible so after a lot of searching I found a chap who made one out of Aluminium to the exact spec of the original.

Getting the tank right and safe is such an important aspect of any restoration.
