Trying to identify this one that has been sent to me. The number plate suggests West Bromwich but this is certainly not a Jensen.
But very likely it could be a Jensen body of what sort of chassis?
The headlight behind the grille suggest Le Mans, but anyone got any answers? _________________ 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 LWB

My first thoughts were Bristol 401 and BMW 328 but neither had the same wheels.
Here's a Delage that looks like it might have the same wheels if not much else.

Its proportions and grill look more like a Talbot Lago though

I'm thinking Richard Meade here - the guy who built the Marauder bodies, and a bevy of one-off very stylish bodies on various chassis. I think I recognise the premises.
The wheels look Fordish to me. |

The Grille and the paired headlights behind it are typical of the late 40's Peugeot 202.Whether the car is based on that seems a little doubtful though. |

With respect, the Peugeot grille is (almost) similar, but certainly not the same grille as the car pictured above. _________________ 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 LWB

The Healey Silverstone had similar headlamps behind the grille but the body had cycle wings. They did have connections with Jensen as well. _________________ Keep Torqueing,

**** ONLY FOUR YEARS LATER .... ****
It's a 1938 Steyr 19.8hp
The full story is that well known special builder / car dealer Michael McEvoy imported four of these chassis. One went to Jensen, who had bodied his "McEvoy Specials" from the early thirties and was fitted with a traditional DHC body to become the one-off Jensen K-type. The other three McEvoy had these streamlined bodies fitted to by Frank Devey, who was one of Jensen's senior coach-builders. It seems that this was a sort of unofficial 'private' commission rather than official Jensen coachbuilds, though clearly they were complicit
The K-type is no longer with us, but one of the three McEvoy streamliners is.

Thank you so much for your reply! You refer to the car as a "Jensen K-Type", was this official Jensen factory nomenclature do you know? I have no records of such a name / model. Were the other three cars all to the same style?

Yes, K-type was an official Jensen model, even though only one was built. The driving force (no pun intended) behind all this was Michael McEvoy, an interesting character who had been involved with the Jensen brothers from their earliest days in the coachbuilding business. McEvoy had various business interests including being the UK importer of Zoller superchargers and was involved with KMW Motors, the UK Steyr importer based near Donington Park. They offered his streamliners for sale at £675, or £750 with a Zoller blower.

I got most of the rest of my info from Richard Calver's website (www.richardcalver.com) and would highly recommend his book "Jensen - All the Models". Seventy-Five quid might seem a lot for a 'paperback' but if you think of it in terms of the many thousands of hours of research that Richard put in, then it seems completely reasonable ..... (-;

This is turning into a 'small world' story. I visited Freddie once and must have been only a few feet from this car. To be fair it would have been lost in the dozens of cars that were there.
