Yesterday I was at the Commercial Vehicle Museum at Leyland for the Cream of Classic Car Show. there was only about 30odd cars turned up, but I love the museum especially the lawn mower.
Imagine it's 1892, you have no electricity/gas/water in your tied cottage, you have only seen a steam engine at harvest time and the Squire turns up and says:
"Leave your scythe in the shed lad I've got you a new fangled lawn cutter for the Manor House lawn, that man in the bowler hat will show how to start it."

Health and safety? I don't think so..

It must have been like being confronted by a space ship!

Hi
Did you know that the cylinder cutting action of lawnmowers was developed from a machine used to evenly cut the nap for billiard table baize?

The same man is also credited with a tool you probably have in your tool box, this is shown on the link as well.

Nice well preserved machine Smile

And a very versatile inventor, that Mr Budding.

I guess it was later in the evolution of man that it was realised to:

Just like your wife, do not lend your lawnmower or handtools to your mates - you don't know what state they will be in IF they are returned.
