I owned this van briefly around 10 years ago thought it had long gone ,
only for it to turn up on a garage for-court near Peterborough ! thanks to a good friend i bought the van back ,
The van is a 1927 Eccles model 14 nearly complete and just as it left the factory in 1927 no rot , and unrestored , still with its single back light , and old number plate, fabrics on the seats , lino, etc , these vans have galvanized skins with ply on the inside , 8 foot long , built in fold out step, no sink ! oil stove ,
fittings for lean to awnings on both sides and the rear , i fitted new tyers and serviced the brakes when i had it and the van is ready to tow !
the hitch is a 1930s 1 1/2 leeson this is a replacement for the old pin hitch and thats about the only modern mod on the van !

G'day OVM
What a great piece of living caravan history that van is, I had no idea they used galvanised iron for the exterior cladding.
It may not be the best looking Eccles of that period but it should be in a museum I reckon
Problem with museums is they usually want people to donate stuff to them

There were three Eccles of this period at the Dorset Steam Fair, this year. A large 16 foot 4 berth of 1926, a two berth 1928 and a showman's 16 feet, all in amazing condition. The interior of the showman caravan was mind blowing. All mahogany and cut glass and nickel plated oil lamps and fittings. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)
