I'm just on the brink of possibly buying a 1960 Trojan van, (Sept 60) and wondered if anyone could clarify the MOT situation on a commercial of this age?? Im not up on commercials at all, so a jorney into the unknown for me!

Hi, yes it will require an mot, your Trojan will be a class 4; pre 1960 class 4's have been mot exempt since Nov last year, pre 1960 class 7's commercials have been mot exempt for some time.

It's date of manufacture not date of registration that counts.

I have a 5 ton 1978 Karrier Bantam and have always had trouble testing her. Because shes plated I have to take her to a VOSA HGV testing station. The last time she went she failed the complete test on 1 thing, the original 10" wiper blades did not clear enough of the screen to meet modern regulations!! I made a complaint in writing that these were the original ones on the lorry and she was not being used for commercial purposes. I was then informed that if I paid a retest fee she would be passed as she was! I was later told by one of the older chaps at the test station that it was due to an over-eager young tester who was unfamiliar with older vehicles!

I had a Series 2A LWB Landrover, that I owned and used in South Australia. It had only ever been fitted with one windscreen wiper motor. When I came over to New South Wales, I had go and buy another one for the passenger side. Otherwise they would not pass it for registration !
