I use 800, although I've heard other use 600 but cellulose is thin so shows up the tinniest scratch below.

Cheers

I'd second 800, and use a decent paper like 3M or Mirka, the cheaper ones clog very easily especially when used dry.

any decent supplies of wet and dry?
ebay seems quite expensive.

so if 800 is for between coats, what about flatting after finishing spraying but before using compound? 1200? 2000?

I use 1200 with soap and water and then finish with Farecla G3 by hand or machine.

I get my 1200 from Machine Mart

Hi Kev

The grade used before compounding depends on your spraying results!! You have seen my MGA; I went back to 600 where there was bad orange peel on the top coat, and worked down to 1500 before a G3 compound. You need to be careful not to go through to the primer; always flatten with a block even if it's a chunk of scrap wood, but if you do go through a quick flick of spray will sort it out.

I'd get the paper from wherever you get the paint from, my local supplier practically gives the paper away if I'm buying it with the paint. I can't stress enough to avoid the cheap brands , they just don't last and clog up very quickly.

Cheers

Dave
