I just spent a frustrating but ultimately rewarding time on my Rover.
It had a misfire and I decided to clean and set the carbs,check the plugs,points and renew the tatty plug leads. This I assumed would sort it out.
Starting it with just the initial settings it seemed better and setting the timing with the engine running and balancing the carbs and setting the mixture it improved with each step. It still sounded a bit 'off' no matter what I did next.
I rechecked all my settings,cleaned the plugs again and checked for air leaks etc etc.
In desperation I checked the resistance of the new leads and found one had a higher reading than the others.Pulling it to bits I found one connection hadn't made,wiggling the lead gave an open circuit sporadically.
The connection remade with a bit of solid copper shoved down the centre,and the big V8 sounded much happier.
I should have remembered advice I was given a long while ago,never assume.
