Hi, what is a good paint to use to paint the outside of a gas tank? I'm restoring a corvette and the tank is galvanized. I would like to get close to that color which is like silver.
Thanks,
Danny |

Why are you wanting to paint a galvanised gas tank?
I can only assume that there is rust developing through the galvanising. If you want to paint a galv surface then there are zinc sprays available but they tend to be more grey than silver. If you want to paint the tank then you will need to thoroughly clean the galv surface and prime followed by a silver paint.
If the galv is in tact and there is no rust, then there may well be white salts on the surface. The salts are part of the rust preventing nature of galvanising as the surface is sacrificial to fend off the corrosion and is part of the protective process of galvanising. |

POR-15 which is much cheaper over there is perfect for galvanised surfaces that have weathered. I have just done a galvanised chassis with it. It is available in silver. _________________ Evans Waterless Coolants
