Hi. I attach a couple of pictures of the front and rear engine mounts just removed from my car as I have now taken out the engine and gear box in preparation for an overall.
Rear engine/gearbox mounts.
Are they supposed to look as if the council road tarmac machine as globbed all over them?!!!!!!.......They seem to be sound enough, but I guess I was shocked at how they appear to be constructed. When I viewed them in situ in the past, I assumed that they were covered in years of solidified oil and gunk. I believe that they are available to buy.......but I don't want to spend un-necessarily. What do I need to look out for in terms of wear or damage which would determine if they should be replaced.
Front Engine Mounts
One of the front mounts has separated into two, very cleanly and without obvious damage.....I am guessing that the metal plate should be 'bonded' to the rubber mount. Given that there appears to be no damage to either part could it be re bonded in some way or should I just get another pair.
Any views ?
Stuart

Hi Stuart
For what they cost, I'd renew them.
