Yes, the 2013 F1 Championship is over and Herr Vettel is a four times champion, consecutively.
I used to watch every F1 race but now I'm content to watch the highlights only.
Vettel strikes me as a pleasant and courteous young man who proved his ability by winning Immola in a Torro Rosso before his move to Red Bull.
How do you rate him among the greats?
I still think Nigel Mansell was one of the most exciting drivers. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

He's made an excellent job of the opportunities he's been presented with, consistently on the pace etc etc. Webber's no slouch, and of the two I'd support him over SV, yet SV has shown MW a clean pair of heels in most qualis and races.
Saying that, I'm not particularly a fan of the RB team or him, but there's no denying his abilities and those of the team. The others have a lot of catching up to do, next year could be quite interesting (hopefully).
Outside of the car he seems pleasant enough, and once behind the wheel has the ruthless edge that all (most) champs seem/need to possess.

In the year 2013, S.V, while not being my favourite, has won the championship by way of good driving, good support and good design
Being of an age when I remember Moss, Clarke, Stewart, Lauda, Hunt, Senna, Michael and my favourite, Nigel Mansell, I miss the blood, sweat and tears. "Motor Racing is Dangerous" it was printed on our tickets years ago, but now the Health and Safety executive have sanitised it to a point when it should read, "Motor Racing May be Dangerous at Times"
No one in their right mind would jump for joy if a driver, or a.n.other was killed or maimed, and many improvements did make it safer.
Now we have a sport that seems to have 2 million rules and nearly as many judges. It is now a sport where a range of artificial events are thrown into the ring in an effort to create excitement.
When a driver can be penalised for giving a lift to a fellow driver, or penalised at the next event for a technical infringement, or warned for "aggressive driving" then the word "racing" should be removed from the title.
Maybe it is wrong for "old timers" like myself to be asked for our opinion, especially after just buying a shop vac which includes a warning, "do not use submerged"
I will try really hard not to. |
