Just came across these two photos - taken at my Uncle's garage on the A49 mid to late '60's.

Cheers,JD.

Whereabouts on the 49? I live very near it and am on it practically every day, maybe I could get a picture of it as it is today...

I will always remember the red label Rolls Royce recovery truck, that was at Lye, near Stourbridge.

Yes I remember that RR at Lye as well - spent 2 years of my life there pounding the beat in my short Police careeer years ago.
It was fairly well known and I have a feeling it has been rebuilt as it was from something I read a while ago. Remember old RR were cheap then - who wanted one? There were several in a scrap yard at Doxey in Stafford I remember in the early sixties.

Hi,yes the two Crestas & the Vanguard were quick motors at the time - too quick for some it would appear. I would guess the Herald was flung into a corner & just tucked it's wheels in.
The garage was in Cuddington on the left climbing up the hill on the A49 - that was where I went on holiday as a teenager & remember it was possible to hear the cars at Oulton Park from the forecourt - very often pedalled by my cousin.
It was open from 6.00 till midnight(as detailed in the AA handbook) until the opening of the M6 which killed most of the passing trade. Those holidays were probably where I got my fixation with cars & mechanical things. Cheers,JD.

Hi Julian, see details in previous quote. Last time I was there would have been about '65, all grown up with a new wife. Not long after that my aunt & uncle retired to the Lakes & within a year my uncle was dead - not much retirement after years of hard work. That's my uncle just disappearing out of shot in one of the photos. Cheers,JD.

So Rick is thinking......That Dodge recovery truck would only have been 10 miles away...wonder where it is now? Very Happy Very Happy

John great pics, I must have driven past the garage (or site of it) 100's of times.

Even worse than that, until we moved here we lived in Sandiway right next to Cuddington. I'm trying to picture where the garage would have been.

I went with my mates to look at a RR saloon about 1934, in the '60,s . It was complete but needed some resto. They wanted 25 quid for it, we did not buy it...
I did a paper round in my early teens, 7 days a week, in Stourbridge. In winter time, Mr Plod would come into the back of the shop, to get warm and have a cuppa. About 1957.

After the lawnmower place, but before the traffic lights? I'll be there today, probably, so will try and remember my camera.
