First of a two-part film that shows Minors being built up at a factory in Holland during the 1950s. There's no commentary, and the music in part 1 is lousy, so leave your speakers turned off! Interesting though all the same Smile

As a Morris Minor fan amongst my other car favourites I saw this film some years ago. Great piece of footage.

The little cars do bounce around a bit. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

It would be nice to arrive home and find a crate delivered by the courier with knock down components of a complete car.
Then phone a few chaps up to help put it together.

These guys are really no more than Kit Car Builders. Very Happy

Homes across the land on any Saturday afternoon are taking part in such complicated assembly procedures....

It is called IKEA Furniture. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I liked that film Very Happy there is also a part 2.

I wonder how different it was in the Morris UK factory ? All the panels for minors were made by Pressed Steel (now the current Swindon mini plant) so wether in the UK or Holland it would have been an Ikea kit!!!

The music suits it Rick..a bit other worldly. It all looks just too easy and relaxed and like it's happening in Santa's workshop. Even the welding seems to happen without too much thought. All the processes carry health hazards and no-one has protection. Look at the guy calmly doing leadloading and the one spraying paint. All that physical moving of parts just couldn't happen in a factory these days.
Amazing video.

It's funny how language works.A normal translation of the title would be "cars on the assembly line".Literally, the title says "cars on the walking track".
Very apt, given that all movements are by pushing and walking! This film was made for schools, etc.
Although i was born in holland in 1951,I never knew that Morris Minors were assembled in holland,or that they were that popular.I suppose in those days,ANY car was desirable.
However, the average working man certainly couldn't afford a new car,be they MM or a Goggomobile.
By the time I was able to recognize individual makes and models of cars, these Minors would mostly have rotted away,as the dutch authorities pickle their roads in winter.(at least, they used to.)
And yet, here in new zealand, there are still a good few around.

I hate them but it was very interesting to see the construction. Some surprises: It looked as if the roof was welded to the side frames but only soldered (lead loaded) between the roof and the rear bodywork.

I also hadn't realised that the windscreen centre pillar was just a joining piece and not really part of the frame structure.
