I'm heading off on 22nd of December for a 1600 k's round trip interstate, from Melbourne to Adelaide and back in my 1946 Morris 8 4 door saloon. Really looking forward to the trip and going to take it slow and easy (not that fast is an option in a Morry 8 ).
I'll take Highway 8 via Ballarat and Horsham, Bordertown and Tailem Bend to Murray Bridge. Adelaide to Granite Island and back via the Coorong and Mt Gambier, finishing up with The Great Ocean Road, Geelong and home to Frankston Vic.
Will take camera and bore y'all with pics when I get back

Sounds like a good trip, Ian. I hope all goes well.
1965 I did a tour, Melbourne to the South Australian border, via the Great Ocean Road, then North via Bordertown and Pinnaroo to Renmark. We continued via the old post road to Mildura, crossed into N.S.W. and worked our way through to Khancoban then to Jindabyne and South to Buchan via Gelantipy. We then went to Woods Point and Jamieson before returning to Melbourne. Lots of adventures on the way and many miles of unsealed road.
Here is the Series E just South of Jindabyne-
And another shot after Suggan Buggan.
Last year my wife and I drove some of that trip in reverse order, starting at Mildura. This time in our Rover SD1. All of the dirt roads that we had encountered in 1965 are now sealed highways. Instead of travelling via Geelong to Melbourne and home, we used the Queenscliffe to Portsea ferry and enjoyed that, as well as the reduction in distance to get to South Gippsland. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Gidday Ian,
Sounds like great adventure about to unfold. When do you reckon you will be in the Victor Harbour (Granite Rock) area? This could be an opportunity to met up and kick the tyres . I am up at Gawler so would take me a couple of hours to drive down.

Hi Rosco
I'm hoping to be at Victor Harbour taking a ride on the double-decker horsedrawn tram to Granite Island on the 30th December I'll post up the day before I get there, always good to meet up with fellow enthusiasts.

Look forward to the pics . I believe the GOR is only 80kph these days so the Morri will blend right in.

"The Great Ocean Road" sure is a wonderful drive "Commad". I'd like to do it with a video camera attached to windscreen to get full effect of the sweeping bends, sheer cliff-faces and panoramic ocean views. _________________ Ian from Oz

Sounds like a good plan Ian, I will see if I can coax SHMBO down for some fish and chips.
Unfortunately the penguin population is not what it once was on Granite Island but the coastal scenery is something else.

Hi
If you go back to google maps and click the link item again, you will see that there is a little box on the pop-up which has the words short url next to it.
Click that and then copy and paste that back into your previous post using the edit function, (highlight the link already there before pasting over it and it will be replaced by the new short link)
This should bring the thread back into normal screen width. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Trip temporarily cancelled due to Hospital stay. Went into Frankston Hospital last week on Tuesday night as I couldn't breathe Still not good enough to drive yet and just got out of Hospital. Very frustrating time but I will get there.
