I have mentioned before that I am a fan of the 1970s Opel Ascona (the rear wheel drive one like the MK1 Vauxhall Cavalier) and how I regret getting rid of mine. I have not seen one on the road for ages and wonder if indeed any survive ? If you have seen one or have any pics ? I would be grateful for the info. thanks "MO"

I see one a couple of times a week in Norwich and today on the way home from work i think i have found out where it lives, if i go that way again and it is there i will take a pic for you it is that mustard orange yuck colour

My dad had one in 1996, I remember being picked up from primary school in it. ACH 191T was the reg and it was in that ^^^ colour as well. I remember it did seem very old compared to all the other parents cars (apart from a MK1 Transit minibus).

I haven't seen one for years, although there is a tidy Chevette "shuvit" saloon around

Bought an Ascona Berlina 2 litre new in 1980. Lovely car for the family, and to me it looked oh-so-much more stylish than it's sister the Cavalier, plus the interior was much plusher. Sold it and bought a Manta hatch I seem to recall.

Theres an orange one around New Milton all the time, same blokes owned it for years. I can remember first seeing him driving it in 1998, my wife says he has another too.

So it seems there are still a few running around and after doing a "search" on the Web I found a few that have changed hands fairly recently. Of course there seems to be a lot left in left hand drive countries too , I dont remember but were Opels sold alongside the equivilant Vauxhall at the Vauxhall dealer or were there seperate Opel dealers ? thanks "MO"

I used to really want the estate car model, known as the Ascona Voyage.
When they were new in the 70's, I couldn't quite afford one.

Hi guys, I'm new on here, and drive a 1980 Opel Manta. So talking Ascona's and Vaux/Opel is my bag so to speak. There are plenty of Ascona's left, and a large number of them belong to the OMOC (Opel Manta Owners Club). As you say, they were a slightly more stylish car than the Mk1 Cav's, and were sold alongside the Vauxhall equivalent at most Vauxhall main dealers, as were the Manta's.

They are rare in original guise now, as are the Manta's, but luckily there are quite a few Manta fans who also own Ascona's and are keeping them going. I will try and post some pics up of a couple that turned up at the VBOA event back in July this year.

Incidentally, the autobarnstormers club that someone mentioned above, is for any straight 6 engined Vauxhall or Opel. They never put a straight 6 in the Ascona, so you won't see many Ascona's in that club, nice guys as they are.

I very nearly bought a 1980 MK1 "shovel nose" Carlton 2000 with a duff gearbox from my local scrapyard in 2007. In purest brown with a fantastic nutmeg velour interior. Sadly I was 16 and skint so PLD 399W was crushed not long after that. Shame as it was a really tidy car, and an extremely rare manual version, but no one wanted them then.

I've had a few Asconas recently, seem to be a few about and like has been mentioned the OMOC caters for them. I have a Mk1 Cavalier, one of 5 I have owned along with about 15 Mantas, all the same car underneath and much underrated in my opinion.

This was my last one, late 2 litre Berlina sadly accident damaged soon after the photo was taken in 2007.
