I recently heard news of this old caravan needing a home, probably 1950s or 1960s in date. I don't normally post ads on other people's behalf but I'll make an exception with this one.
Photos and more details:
I'm looking for someone who might be interested in my
father's old caravan either to do it up or to use in doing up others. It
would be free to anyone who could collect it (it's in Merseyside).
I think it is a Penguin from the 1950s. You can still see the grey-blue paint on the lower half and it has a flat front and back pointed at the top
instead of the more modern streamlined curve up to the roof. The model number seems to be 9(or7?) 8(?) 4 8(or5?) 9The plaque says Universal Caravan Trailers Ltd, 61 Blagdon Road, New Malden, Surrey
It is aluminium.
It is mostly original though the door was repositioned to open the
opposite way when he fitted a rail around one side to take an awning.I believe the cooker, sink, table, bunks, cupboards and gas light fitings to be original. It has not been on the road or used other than for storage since the 1980s so I would imagine the wheels will have seized up for example. There are now signs of deterioration such as repainting being needed, the wooden inner skin bowing, veneers over the windows and door peeling away inside and I've only just noticed the aluminium cladding is coming loose low down by the door.
The caravan represents many happy memories of family holidays for me and I would rather not just scrap it if possible.
