It was suggested I think a while back, but I don't think there are too many mariners on here. We went to visit the remains of a U-Boat that's on display near Liverpool, very interesting but sectioned rather than in one piece now, presumably to make viewing its interior more straightforward.

I read about this myself and thought it very interesting but I would because naval history is one of my favourite subjects.

Apparently there are ten U Boats still unaccounted for. I read many years ago that there was one drifting in the South Atlantic presumably after it's crew abandoned it and landed somewhere in Argentina. The article was sometime in the early 1980s.

Very interesting and I bet the clock is of the best quality.

From where was it "liberated"? It looks as if it came from a surface naval vessel and approximately how much is it worth?

Yes very well made in solid brass by Kieninger and Obergfell (They made a range of Naval time pieces)
It was originally painted matt black and when it was brought home polished back to the brass finish it is now .

It was indeed from a surface vessel of the "Nordsee" fleet indicated by the N on the dial .

It has survived in very very nice order ...unusual that the insignia is still intact after the anti nazi/German feeling following the end of the war .

Value wise ...not a clue i guess a specialist in horology or war items might be able to give a guesstimate .
Or list on ebay and hope for the best .

I've got a Smiths equivalent of that in my attic, it's quite similar except that the minutes are round the outside and the hours inside a bit where the hour hand reaches.

I'd love that one, but have no idea of the value. Is it working okay?

Fascinating.

A very early submarine - the Resurgam - sunk under tow while en route from Birkenhead to Portsmouth off the North Wales coast in 1880.
