An old topic resurrected for our newer members and did you pass first time, I passed my test in a Post Office Telephones Z type van. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

| Morris (or Austin) 1100. When I bought a 1300GT my instructor spotted it and called round for a ride in it; was really chuffed when I let him drive it. |

A white triumph herald, it was in 1980 and the school of motoring (roy and edwina) had a red herald and a white one, £5 per lesson.

Mine is far less interesting!!
a beaten up daihatsu charade which belonged to the instructor.
And yes I passed first time.
However before going for the test I had driven various cars which my uncle used to have as his company car which include mazda 121, fiat uno Fire (it did catch fire some years later so the name was aptly chosen), and an escort mark 5 almost brand new at the time.
I also used to drive our green mini, the same one I still have. |

Don't remember the car for my car test, but my motorcycle test was passed
on my Yamaha DT125LC in 1984. So pleased at passing, I stopped at the traffic lights, tore off the rear L plate and carelessly discarded it, then on a green light wheelied away down the road.
How was I to know there was a policeman watching
He said well done for passing the test, and if I promised never to do another wheelie, and picked up the litter I had just left, he would say no more about it.........

If we're doing bikes as well then I even have a picture of it and me.
I got this fine machine from the insurers of the gent who wrote off my previous bike that I got for free.
It had a slipping clutch when I got it and I replaced it but with the springs used in the Heinkel bubble car so clutch operating was almost a two handed job. When the examiner tested me on the emergency stop I stalled it for lack of left hand strength but he didn't fail me for it.
