I have resurrected my original one asking for any information on the header subject.

My neighbour paid me a visit last year, and I showed him my lack of progress in removing one of the old tyres from my Ruby wheel.
He was silent for a while, with that look that said he was trying to remember something.
After a while he said that he had found a box that contained something that may be of interest to me, it having been part of a deal he had made in purchasing 2nd hand mowers.
His business was lawn mowers.
I went with him to see what this box of tricks was and couldn't quite believe what I saw.
The instruction booklet was very tatty and fragile, so I said I would photocopy it before trying to sort out how it worked.
Took it home, copied the instructions and put the original away for safe keeping.

So it is I think time to put everyone out of their misery by showing what Barker's Tyre Levers box of tricks looks like . . .

[/img]

Wonder if their are any Sherlocks who can figure out how it works?

Geoff - More bl@@dy rain!

Can't help with the box contents but the usual problem with getting tyres off rims is getting the bead unstuck.

I lay the wheel flat on the ground and with my driver's door open I hang out so I can see the tyre whilst I drive over it. The weight of the car always breaks the bead although you may need to rotate the wheel to attack several sectors before it finally gives in.

H.E.Barker's improved tyre lever patented in 1912.

There is a description of use, but no images.

Another photo of parts laid out.

This will with luck help the grey matter somewhat.

Geoff - Sunny but windy

Hi
The diagram on this page appears to show a different type of lever.
http://tinyurl.com/neo4mba

Looking at the "laid out" photo there must be some part that has a slot in it into which the end of the "C" shaped component will fit (that would be the end with the U shaped cut out.
I can envisage leverage on that lifting the bead using the other end of the C piece where the step is, this should then enable a flat lever to be inserted easily.
This could also lift the last part of the bead back onto the wheel as well when re-fitting.
Do the chromed pieces have dimensions which allow them to be fitted together? (eg to extend their length)
What is the effect of turning the handle?
What does the pin in the slot do for instance?

It looks as if this tool kit applies to beaded edge tyres/wheels. Possibly not very relevant unless you have a veteran car.

Penman,
Holmes would be proud of you!
Will put a photo of the parts assembled later with the manual.
"Tyre Levers" is misleading, as most of us would immediately conjure up an imagine of the flat bar variety.
This tool does, however, do the same thing, but continuously by just walking around the wheel.

Geoff - Some people are clever.

Herewith, photo of the bits assembled ready to attack a tyre.

The next one will be of it attached to a wheel, ready to be wound up.

Geoff - I do like a mystery.
