Assuming that the plastic number plate 'bolts' were not around in the 60's when my vogue was new, am i correct in thinking a slotted pan head screw and nut would have been used to fit the plates (touched up with black paint) ?

Hi
When did the plastic 2 part screw covers come in?

They had a "washer", which had a raised rim, under the screw head and a cap which fitted onto the "washer" covering the screw head.

I think they came in Black for the old type plates and White and Yellow for the new type.

my vogue would definately come with some sort of nut and bolt fixing. the front plate fixes to 2 brackets hanging down from the front bumber and the boot is pre drilled, both bolts would have been 6mm id say.
perhaps im over thinking this and should just go with the plastic bolts i have..devil is in the detail sometimes tho eh..

Dome-headed slotted screws and nuts would be my choice, the slots neatly lined up, I'm not keen on plastic..!

I ordered some last night! stainless jobbies in M8 size.
I will give them a squire of black gloss before fitting them and use a piece of paper on the screwdriver end to save damaging the paint.

So you've gone to the trouble of finding the correct type of screw, then ordered them in the johnny-foreigner METRIC size? Wink
