This happened two years before I was born, I agree that it is not pretty, but it also shows how through the 60's and 70's nothing was learned, and it was not until the Drivers Union that safety, not just for drivers was improved. When looking at films taken of not just road based events but where the RAC rally went through the forests it is amazing there were not more of the same.
As a spectator I can understand the pleasure in being close to the action, as a Clerk of Course, I would lock the gates and keep all spectators away. At least racing, even track based racing allows access to paddocks where the smell and noise is there. _________________ KA
