It probably would not affect us - old car owners. They can keep their old plate. That is one advantage we old car owners have!
At least that is the case in the Netherlands where all cars since 1978 need to have the "new" European plate. In 1978 the yellow plate was introduced here. Before that, dark blue with white lettering.
Sometime during the "zeroes" all cars with yellow plates without the european symbol, introduced end of 90s, needed to obtain new yellow plates with the euro symbol. So all cars here with a yellow plate (build date 1978 onwards) have the euro plate.
If the car originally had old dark blue plates, these can be kept.
Import cars with a build date from before 1978 can obtain a new "classic" registration and these also may wear dark blue plates. My Jaguar 420 and TR4 are examples, imported from the USA in 1997 and 1994. The Range Rover (1984, imported in 2011 from France) has a new registration, and new euro yellow plates. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

I also doubt it would affect us, these things don't tend to be retrospective however I wish the EU would stick to maintaining peace and free trade without introducing all these pointless and zero value regulations
EU people; Stick to the treaties of Rome and Paris please everything else is an expensive distraction !!

| That could be bad for American car owners. We fought for years to get a dispensation to use 6x12 plates, because most American cars have a recess to fit that sized plate. |
