I cannot recommend this event enough. Held in the town centre, it gets the public attending the display`s, visiting local shops and the café`s and pubs do a roaring trade.

Why hold an event in a field when we could open up our historic and pretty towns to events like this.

I agree, closing off a town centre to be taken over by old cars can create a lot of interest and have more of a buzz than sitting in a field. I've not done it for years, but the Victorian Extravaganza in Llandudno was a good day out when they used to close off Mostyn Street (I think), parallel to the main high street.

Chester would be a great venue for this.

Chester used to have the Festival of Transport, and back when it was a two-day event there was a cavalcade through the streets of Chester. As there's plenty of pedestrianised area you could get a lot of vehicles in and around. I think it went off when the centre of the racecourse (where the static show was held) had some buildings added.

Sandbach still does this, though it does get very crowded and vehicles are parked so close together that it's worrying watching people trying to get pushchairs through gaps that clearly aren't big enough. As it's held in April they aren't often lucky with the weather, and it clashes with Drive-it Day which also doesn't help.
