My wife and I have decided to drop in on my sister for afternoon tea. We will be using our modern car a 1982 Rover S.E.2 (SD1 in other words). It might take a while to get there, we live east of Melbourne Victoria, and she lives in Perth, Western Australia, so a drive of about 2,200 miles. I hope she makes a good cuppa!

We will set off on Sunday (25th May), and expect to have a fairly leisurely drive, getting to Perth in 5, 6 or 7 days, depending upon how we feel. After a couple of days in Perth we intend to drive southwards, visiting Albany and Esperance then Norseman before retracing our steps across the Nullabor Plains.

We will, in fact be retracing a route that we last drove in 1975, then using our 1928 Model A Ford.

I will probably be out of communication from the Forum from our departure, until our return, which should be about the 15th to 18th of June. When we return, I'll try to write a story of our trip.

Hi Dane,

Hope you have a good time and a nice cuppa.

Is this an air conditioned trip?

Peter

Peter- I HATE air conditioning. The S.E. has it fitted, but I don't think it works and I have never used it except I did try it out just after I bought the car 14 years ago. Even when the outside temperature is up around the 100 degrees ( 40 C) or more, I prefer to have the windows down and breathe fresh air even if it is a bit warm.

This trip will more likely require the heater anyway, as we are entering our winter, and daytime temps will probably not exceed a cool 20 C or 70 F.

John- The wife and I enjoy each other's company in the car. There is usually so much to see on our trips, that we are never short of conversation. An example is that our excursion last year to Alice Springs in the P4 Rover. In areas that many see as barren and boring, we enjoyed identifying the plants and wildlife as we sped past.

Thanks for interest,
Dane.
