Taking the Morgan to Shetland later this month, not much of a hike from Orkney, but with no roof should be interesting!. _________________ KA

When did they remove the roof over Shetland ?
Visited Orkney back in 1972, crossed from John o Groats on the converted MTB/MGB, "Pentalina" it was quite the ride, especially when it hit the race. We were told to hold on tight and the drop was sufficient to bury the bows.
Spent 4 days hitch hiking around the island and loved every minute. The wreck of the "Irene", was still fairly intact and in our young carefree days climbed a rope that hung over the side. Didn't venture that far inside, very creepy, and the sea caused it to creak and groan all the time. Visited the Italian Chapel where a local told us about the billiard table that the Italian POW's fashioned from concrete.
I don't think I ever found any written reference to that detail, but mention of it now appears on some websites
Enjoy Shetland
The "Pentalina" ferry.
