I'm sure it'll be cringe inducingly terrible! It's the nature of London based lefty luvvies.
However C4 did once do a series on classic cars and their owners that I found profoundly moving. They had an old dear who'd bought a Minor new in the fifties and although she was not longer driving it, a relative had taken it over. She was old and she explained what the car had meant to her and how much she loved it.
There was also a gent who'd bought a new MO Oxford, made his own camping kit and he and his wife had driven across the Alps and Pyrenees when the car was new and for many years afterwards until she'd died. He was still driving it be as it made him feel that she was still by his side. He really loved the thing and I had a job not crying.
But watching a group of pink oboe players acting up for the camera and budging up some old car, just irritates me. |

Just watched it on catch up. I also really enjoyed it. Really happy that they kept it original looking, at first I thought oh here we go again when they were talking about big spot lights and stripes but the experts guided them away. I don't have a problem with engine upgrades I have to add.
Looking forward to future episodes.

How could you possibly spend £2grand on a two cylinder engine rebuild???? and not include a new clutch. This show is a joke. £8900 for a LHD Fiat 500. Vittesse & Colwyn500 must be rubbing their hands.....Cachiiing!!!!

I enjoyed it, I had all the Mk1s from 1300sport to RS2000.
It wasnt too 'cringy' either unlike 'Classic car rescue'
Ricks right though, not enough restoration detail _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Are we all talking about the same programme here.?
If you want to see detailed work being carried out on vehicles you can watch Campervan or A MGB IS Born etc. I start to yawn after 5 minutes of these shows.
I live and breath classic cars, I spend all my waking hours with them, my wife has a passionate interest in them also and has some of her own cars she drives..
What we do not want to see when watching a programme together about vintage or classic vehicles is someone lapping in valves, fitting a water pump or taking off a front wing.
This is when the wife asks me if something else is on the TV.
Wheeler Dealer will show you how to take apart a brake servo.
There are enough self help video`s ( that's showing my age ) or You Tube footage showing how to repair your car.
What we want to see is the back story to the restorations, the passion people feel about their cars, the emotions it brings out in people on the journey through the project , the joy it brings to their lives when that forgotten classic which is part of the family is brought back to life.
Re- the Ford Mexico, I have known the Harris brothers since the late 1970`s, they were just the right sort of down to earth petrolheads to bring onto a programme like this.
I hope next weeks programme about the Landrover features the sort of folk I used to meet when my father took me off roading as an infant.
Never mind the John Craddocks of this world, there are guys working in back garden sheds with a wealth of knowledge that should be featured.
Not far from me in the Fens working in a small hut are two very talented chaps ( father and son ) who build Jaguar XK 120,140 and 150 bodies by hand for people all over the world. These are the sort of folk that should be featured in such programmes, our country is full of talented people like this working in small sheds , garages or workshops churning out fantastic pieces of work.
What we want to see are more down to earth and passionate Fred Dibnah type characters from our unique hobby on the TV.

Now that I would watch - don't know if GF would be up for it though!!!
Having said that, I believe these guys are well paid.
I watched something on TV the other night(couldn't be bothered not to) on a Fiat 500. They had a 'specialist' porting a head to increase the gas flow but left the valves as standard????? where did they learn about gas flow? There were other things but they've fallen out of the hole in the back of my head, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

Yes, only saw bits of the LR prog but I have recorded to watch when I have time. One bit I did see was them charging about amongst the punters in the 'paddock' which would have had them asked to remove themselves if the cameras hadn't been there - elfan safety?? It does look watchable, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
