Hi chaps and ladies, please excuse the long post but I would like some help.
Dad & I have owned 3 Paramounts over the years (out of the 9 remaining survivors), he has over 40 years of experience of them, knows what other car parts can be used / modified to keep them on the road, we have some of the only known spare parts unique to Paramounts and basically know them inside and out.
We also have a large archive of original factory drawings & photos very kindly donated to us by the original workforce and their families over the years.
We have compiled a register of all the Paramounts built, sold & registered including chassis numbers etc and know of the whereabouts of all but one of the known surviving cars and are in touch with most of the owners.
Basically, Dad & I get regular phone calls enquiring about Paramounts, where to get parts, valuations, where to buy one etc but people generally only find us through word of mouth or by trawling through the internet finding the odd forum post by yours truly or our Paramount website which has lots of pictures but no real information.
So I was wondering how one goes about becoming an officially recognised car club / register, have found some limited info from the FBHVC regarding vehicle owners club registration with DVLA but wondered if anyone had any experience or knowledge.
PS it would only be a small club / register as there are only 9 cars left, but as it seems a lot of people get directed to us even for information it would be handy for people to be able to find us in a list of car clubs etc.
Yours hopefully,
Rich
Admin please can you move this if it's in the wrong place |

Interesting stuff.
I guess you'd need a central focus of the club, that may be a magazine or newsletter sent to subscribers, a forum such as this one, or a simple website - probably the best option as it's low cost (ish), and accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Once set up you could then put the word out via other forums, websites, and in printed magazines, and use the register site as a virtual "meeting" place for likeminded Paramount fans.

It's possible to set up a very simple, no frills website within a blog format - which is free. OK there's not much functionality, but just to signpost and establish an online presence it can be perfectly effective. It's also worth noting that some platforms allow contributions to the same blog from more than one account, not sure what the upper number is (it's a long time since I was playing around with this stuff) but as there are only 9 cars left maybe everyone would contribute, and it wouldn't cost anyone a penny |

Lots of people, myself included, steer clear of facebook, twitter, etc. because internet security is regarded as less than adequate.
probably not a good move for a car club or register.

I agree with Rick and Jim, I'm not on FB and don't want to be - at first I just hadn't got round to it, but as more and more stories have emerged about poor security and privacy that has hardened into a firm and concious resolve to have no truck with it. There's also an additional issue for a car club or register, that is presumably it it for the long term - how long are these platforms going to last? Not all that long ago myspace was the big thing, then FB launched and now you never hear of myspace any more. As soon as some bright spark comes up with something that addresses the various issues people have with FB, then FB will slide into the wilderness. The preservation scene in general needs more stable platforms that aren't affected by the whims of fashion.
EDIT: I remembered this afternoon that there's a simple, free way for small numbers of likeminded enthusiasts to keep in touch - the humble email group, as provided by Yahoo (and probably others). No, it isn't a forum, and yes it is a little old fashioned these days, but it's still a perfectly effective means of communication. Coupled with the simple and free blog-format website I mentioned before, it could do everything that a small group needs without costing anyone more than a little time. |
