1/2" in less than ten minutes! Shocked

Side gutter blocked by moss so water came over the side like a waterfall to cover the Carport floor and give the Ruby a wetting.

BH the last time I experienced rain of this ferocity was in Jhb.
Anyone else beat this?

Moss is evil. My old garage was a marley with very gentle slope corrugated asbestos roof. Moss used to dam up the corrugations regularly. Water would build up behind the dam, down the roof overlap, across the metal beam and into my Ruby. Moss also bunged up the gutter at the back which overflowed and let water in. We have just had a thunderstorm so I'd bet it is wet in there now, it's only a few hundred metres away. That roof was a pain. New garage is at least dry.

I have an oak tree five metres from the house. Blocked gutters were the order of the day in the autumn when the leaves were torn off by the storms. So I bought this:-

It is amazing, since it won't let the gutter get blocked and the leaves either blow away or slowly dissolve. As for the moss, it rolls over the top onto the garden. Highly recommended.

It's that one section where I extended the Carport that I need to sort out, but that downpour yesterday was something to behold.
Stair rods doesn't come anywhere near being an adequate description of what it looked like.
It appeared as if the cloud had come to a rest over the area and that said 'Take this', with the rain being perpendicular to the ground, and something to behold. Monsoon like I would hazard a guess.

The force of the rain scoured the roof, so it will be gutter inspection today.
The wire mesh shield over the downpipe caused the moss to collect, thus the problem, but rather that than having to spend days trying to unblock pipes in the ground.
Had to do just that with the Garage gutter pipe, the stupid builders having put a 90° bend in a few feet below ground level, instead of one with a gentle curve.
Did I curse them and their forebears! Had to cut the pipe away as it was buried in concrete, and then battle with three types of drain cleaning rods, springs, wire etc to clear it.

Lidl were doing the same thing a month or so ago for £10. I bought one, works a treat.

We fitted a couple of water buts a couple of weeks back. They were both full within minutes and we filled loads of buckets and bowls. I must admit we took water pretty much for granted until we moved into a house with water meter,at least we can now wash the cars and water the garden for free!
