Is there any way in which the size of photographic submitions can be controlled by the Forum to eliminate the need to meddle with screen size to see them? And even more annoyingly to read the text?
Sorry folks, (and Rick of course), but I am abandoning the use of this Forum.
It is very interesting and informative, but why must contribuutors spoil the enjoyment by posting super hi-res photos?
Is it to demonstrate that they have a super-duper camera?

Where have you seen this? I make a point of resizing to 800 pixels wide before uploading to Photobucket or wherever, just because I'm tight on bandwidth and don't want to waste it uploading stuff.

I did post a few a little wider when I first joined, and was royally told off by someone who didn't like sideways scrolling.

Think yourself lucky you're not on my mobile broadband connection which seems to disable any kind of photo caching - if I open the Elephant topic, it will sit and re-download all the photos even though I only looked at them yesterday.

can you point us in the way of an example Jim?
I use photobucket to host my pics and that seems to resize things ok, unless its my pics that are offending you?

My screen res is quite low, 1024 by 768 and it is rare that I have scroll sideways to see all the picture.

Hi
I use the same res as peter and if I take the favourites column off then I can see vitrually all photos, if the favourites column is showing there is still room for the photos but it requires a very slight scroll to the right.

The bigger problem that I have noticed is when someone pasting links for more than one photo fails to do a line drop (Enter key) between consecutive inserts, this then displays the photos next to each other instead of in one column; because this has happened then any text inserted in that post or subsequent one in the thread will just continue in one long line up to the width of the combined photos.
That can be countered by again using the enter key to force a new line.

I think I'm the recent culprit for posting the Lucitania in the
Historic Aviation department. I knew it was far too wide and it
does result in all the text in all the posts stretching out to the
right. It was only posted to show the flag on the stern.

I do hope Jim doesn't abandon ship. He is a great contributor here.

I did say I was Not going to bother with this any more.
But I forgot to cancel notifications which led to one more post.
THIS thread of text only fots my screen beautifully. Which ALL threads with text only do also.
The problem only arises when a (too large) photograph expands the display width and text off the right hand side of the screen.
That effect ony disappears when the thread starts a new page and only last until another bigger than necessary picture is posted.
Jim.
PS. I'm sure that the success of this Forum and Rick's efforts do not rely on me anyway!

It happens from time to time but I don't see it all that often. As mentioned, sometimes photos end up alongside each other, in which case I normally go in and fix things, but over-size images in general don't appear too often. Sorry to hear that it's sufficiently annoying for Jim to depart the forum, I imagine it'd be worst on a handheld device.
