It was an article on the BBC news about the N.S Savannah, a U.S built nuclear powered cargo/passenger ship, that lead me to the story of the Ford Nucleon

I recall my father discussing nuclear power, in the late 50's and seeing drawings in science books that depicted a world where almost everything could have nuclear power as it's motive power.
There was also the idea that all electric would come from nuclear powered stations and that it would be so cheap, it would not be worth metering, everyone would pay just a flat rate for the service.
It was the Savannah story that prompted me to ask about a Maritime forum, because as we know, Google searches often make reference to OCC articles and the extra diversity could bring new members who may have their main interests in Nautical or Aviation, but also have a classic car, thus expanding the knowledge base that the forum has proved to have.
The N.S Savannah article is here.
