Did any one spot this?

How in the world can this car be worth that amount?

Agreed, I wouldn't have gone a penny over £75k myself Smile

I don't really get it either, there seems to be kudos in owning a very early E-Type to some, but I'd be happy with any early coupe to be honest.

In that case it was probably sold by Jackie Stewarts family garage. Maybe that's part of it's provenance.

I reckon it's an age related plate because either the car was imported or it lost it's plate being laid up in 1983. Wny? Because the date of first registration is shown as 1984 on the DVLA. And I need the name of his MOT station - the ruddy car is taxed until the end of the month! The car is #221 roadster, November 1961, so two months after mine, so the 1964 plate wouldn't ring true. Apparently the car had been in a barn from 1992 until now. I reckon the restoration will cost £150,000 and good luck trying to find the correct parts, since I went through this last year! I must talk to my insurer - again - I guess. Surely this madness must soon stop.

Who else saw Grand Designs last week on C4? a seemingly-sensible couple buying a plot of land for £180k adjoining a disappearing cliff edge in North Wales, on which to build their swanky new pad Rolling Eyes Some people eh!!?!?? Smile

I liked the other Barn find cars in the auction, the three Alvis cars if I remember correctly. I wonder what they went for?

Reviving this thread I was looking at the Bonhams Revival sale results. A Cooper S 1275 at £85,000? The same price as an early alloy XK120 it seems. But staggeringly a Lynx XKSS replica sold for £385,000 and a Wingfield D-type replica at £155,000. The lunatics are ruling the asylum.

Proof positive, if such were needed, that there are too many people with far too much money and no sense. The old saying about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing comes to mind.

There are too many people with excessive wealth but it's probably untrue to suggest that they have no sense. They just live in a different world to us who they have out-smarted.
