Last month I had arranged to take my Ro80 to the Audi Driver's day at Castle Combe race circuit. Audi UK have a very good relationship with the NSU Owners Club and like to have some NSU cars displayed on the day.

I had checked the weather forecast and heavy rain showers were expected so I made a list of what to take in the car. This included my Berghaus waterproof clothes and Goretex shoes.

I had to make an early start and set off travelling down the Fosse. I came up behind a 1920s Austin Seven, an open one that was making good speed but shortly after passing them the heavens opened. I felt sorry for the couple in the car. When I was near Malmesbury a garden centre, which has a coffee shop, was just opening up so I stopped for a cup. It had a gravel surface car park and when I stepped out I really felt the gravel beneath my feet and looked down to see that I was wearing my slippers! The Ro 80 is a really relaxing car to drive!!

So I went to the boot and opened it to find that I had not put my waterproof shoes in there. So a deviation into the town had to be made to buy some new shoes. Guess what, it did not rain at all at Castle Combe so I could have left my slippers on but it did pour down on the journey home.

Oh the joys of getting old.

I have to confess that when out for a brief visit the other day, to my mother, who is in a local care home, my wife nudged me and asked me if I knew that I had odd shoes on!
One brown and one black.
My excuse was that I had not put the main light on in the room where I had put on my shoes!!!!

My solution for many years is PLANNING! And the dreaded lists.......

Since Mrs Wrench and I lead inordinately busy lives and travel frequently betwixt UK and France, lists have become critical: more so since Mrs Wrench has suffered, err senior moments since she was born!

One celebrated Spring morning, she was about to set off to the local mainline station to travel into the City (Of London): she was noted for forgetting such trifles as her annual season ticket, house keys etc.

Anyway, as she was about to depart at circa 7.15 AM, I asked her, "Have you forgotten anything, Darling?"

"No!" she responded, firmly, rummaging through her capacious handbag; "Season Ticket: check. House keys; check. Wallet: check; etc.

"Err, sorry for asking, but might it be a good idea to put a skirt on?"

She was standing by the front door, about to depart in her black slip!

Laughing

The worst problem we now have is suffering a devout conviction that, for example, we most certainly do have copious supplies of X, in France. Only to discover we don't, those illusive supplies are actually in England! And visa versa.

A few weeks ago I visited a major shopping centre to buy something or other. On coming out of the shop, I spent almost half an hour looking for where I had parked my Mitsubishi Magna in the massive car park. I was on the point of reporting a theft to Mr Plod, when I saw a very familiar Jeep just sitting there waiting for me! I then remembered that I had left the Magna at home in the garage 'cos I had used the Jeep!
I don't want to get any older!

Don't worry Keith, it only gets worse. All my moments are senior moments.

I find the senior moments happen more frequently in the morning.
The other day I was looking for my glasses, not near the computer or by the bed, they must be in the bathroom. No not there either, but as I turned to go out I wondered if I actually needed them at all my eyes weren't really so bad. Then I caught a glimpse of an old codger in the bathroom mirror. I realised it was me,all grey hair and extra chins, and I was wearing glasses.

When you get to the age of my friend over here, watch out! He was saying that he was at the doctors this morning at 2am in in the bar opposite at 2.30am. He stops talking mid-sentence and then the record restarts a minute later. Apparently shaving is now optional, and then only from the chin up, not below. Today's conversation was on the problem of the "maps he was going to be receiving on his TV, and how to make sure he had them in quadruplicate". Better than last week when he had problems with his phones and told me that the answer was to put the bottle in the trailer, which after a while I understood to be putting the phone on charge. But the best will always be when he phoned to ask where to find "some labels for his mole". That one turned out to be that he needed new batteries for his computer mouse!

Sadly, we'll all get there one day. Rolling Eyes

That sounds like French/Engish translation problem Lowdrag.

Many years ago (so more of a junior moment) I went into an ironmongers shop in Spain and asked to buy a spade. This generated some rather puzzled looks from the shop keeper.

I had asked for an espada.

I should of course asked for a pala rather than a sword.

I have found that in recent years my mind has been particularly focused on the Hereafter.

When doing a job, and I need an implement, I set off to the workshop to collect it. When I get there, I scratch my head and think "What am I here after?"

Hi
A friend has had a GT version of the Stannah stair lift installed, so that he can get upstairs before he forgets why he went up there. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
