OK.. Christmas is coming and perhaps the opportunity to tell a funny story.

The authenticity maybe questioned and it may not be new, but I laughed..

Hi Dave. I have had an automatic and manuals for 20+ years, but remember the first transition period. Our present Dodge Durango has these "cute" Confused knobs. Maybe it is a sign of getting older ? but I had become accustomed to the comforting click of putting the shifter into Park.

In 2003 I bought an automatic Mitsubishi Pajero, why, I don't really know except that I fancied a change.

The day after buying it I was passing our local bakery and remembered that I had been ordered to buy a fresh loaf. I forgot that I was in an automatic and put my left foot on what I thought was the clutch and only for the seat belt I am sure that I would have gone through the windscreen.

Two black rubber lines behind me and an irate motorist who had nearly rear ended the Pajero.

Oh, the embarrassment with a fair number of villagers as spectators. Embarassed
