Strange that the Bond Bug is listed as one of the ugly cars. I thought they were quite attractive if quirky,and they now have their own little cult following attracting high prices when they come up for sale.

Perhaps the reason for these cars is that designers wanted to make something that wasn't just boring and beauty was a secondary consideration.
