Hold on a minute. Straight 8?
Did Bentley ever build a straight 8 back then?.

The recreation looks good from the outside bar a few too many lamps on the rear but the instrument panel looks nothing like the original and leaving aside that it's the wrong engine I don't like to think what lurks beneath that nasty alloy shield at the front of the engine.

Except that this model didn't race the Blue Train. It was Woolf Barnato driving his straight six.
The car featured here was incorrectly featured in several paintings and copies of paintings from which the legend grew.
The response by French Government has also received much re-colouring over the years. Woolf died at the age of 52. a little too young to have completed his memoirs. |

I think it's a shame that even replicas are wrapped up in cotton wool. Not that this is a replica of the original Blue train Bentley as Peter has pointed out.
If I had the kind of money that's behind this kind of commission I would insist on accuracy and then want to drive the wheels off it! |

Here is concise explanation as to why reports confused the Bentley that took part.
https://stevemckelvie.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/bentley-and-the-blue-train/
It is coincidence that in the past weeks I have been researching one of the "Bentley Boys", Thomas "Scrap" Thistlethwayte and had come across articles about the Blue Train Race. |
