|
|
Hi all,
Thought you might like to see these......
I have inherited several genuine showroom posters from my uncle. Being a complete car nut, he used to regularly visit his local BMC dealer in Plymouth in the early 60's where he purchased his new A60 Cambridge and asked the salesman for some posters! They are all in as new condition and measure 64cm x 88cm.
I have two of the Austin A110 Westminster poster.
The Mini Cooper poster is slightly smaller and measures 59cm x 78cm.
The Capri poster was acquired by him when he bought one of the last Capri 2.8 injections in the mid 80's, is as new and measures 101cm x 76cm.
He informed me that the Ford gearbox poster came direct from the Dagenham factory and was used to train apprentices. It's slightly different from the others as its looks like its made from canvas. It has some frayed edges but they are more like patina than damage. The size of this one is 100cm x 75cm.
I haven't decided what to do with them yet. They are too good to hang in my garage and given their size, I am not sure they will fit on the walls anyway! I may approach the Heritage Centre at Gaydon to see if they are interested in the BMC items as they would suit a museum. I may consider selling some of them at some point but am reluctant to do this at the moment as I haven't a clue how much they are worth and they do have some sentimental value.
I expect owners clubs would like them but having had a bad experience with a previous donation to an owners club I would rather not go down this route.
My son is badgering me for the Mini Cooper one which he wants to frame and put on his bedroom wall so this one may have a home.
I can't find anything similar on the internet although there seem to be a lot of reproduction stuff out there. So if anyone has any suggestions or can give any ideas of value I would be interested to hear.
I hope the link below works!

Thanks Phil,
These are great, I could look at them all day.
It looks to me that there has been a little artistic license and the cars appear slightly longer and lower that they are in reality.
I note that the cars are shown in settings that suggest a successful lifestyle: yacht, golf club etc. The A60 poster shows the cars on a motorway which would have been still a novelty to most drivers and would have definite associations with being absolutely up to the minute.
I can understand your reluctance to donate them to a museum as you then lose all control and perhaps the museum would not attach much value to them.
Just a thought: what if you offered them on a long term loan which would allow you to recover them if you were unhappy about how they were being displayed?
I do hope you find a good home for them and thanks for taking the trouble to share them.

Hi Phil.
They are excellent and I am sure there are folk who would like to have them. My impression of owners' clubs is that they don't tend to have permanent premises so perhaps not such a good fit.
Museums, yes possibly but they would find buyers and find their own prices on eBay.
