Cawley Bros (Haulage)Ltd is an old established haulage company operating from my local town, Llanrwst, for the past sixty years. It has the same base as when it started, modern now and extensive but the same location was used by a previous and also long established haulage concern, H &W E Hughes which was created in the 1920's.
The Cawley brothers now run an extensive modern fleet but are proud of their history as well. Below is a photo of their 4 axle ERF, NUN 401G, which their father bought new in 1968. It was restored following "retirement" in the early 1980's and is a regular exhibit at shows in North Wales and the North West of England.
They also have two ERF articulated lorry tractor units. Both are now in semi retirement and the modern trucks they own are now all MAN, the de facto modern ERF.

I thank them for lending me their archive photos some of which are reproduced below.
Can you identify the following?

I have some but not all the answers and I will post a further photo of the last one shown which the Cawleys have researched themselves after any of your suggestions and identifications have been posted.
Enjoy and good luck _________________ Starting Handle Expert

The first two are Garrett steam lorries but the "fleet" photo was taken around 1950.
The valuations are interesting.

Hi
I think the one in the middle is a Leyland Comet. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I would agree. The first two pictures are Garret steam wagons. The second line up is O Type Bedford, Pre-war Leyland Beaver, Post-war Leyland (probably another Beaver), Leyland Comet (probably a '90'), O Type Bedford, 4-5 Ton Commer Superpoise and lastly a Military Bedford.
A lovely period shot. |
