I had an interesting conversation this afternoon with an enthusiastic Saab owner.
I had the Series 2a Land Rover in the drive for a clean and a clear out prior to having a new bulkhead swapped in place of the rusting original when a man in his early 50s asked me about the Series.
The discussion turned to his present car, a 2004 Saab 9-3 2.2TiD Vector which he had bought new.

He also had a 1990 Saab 9000 turbo and was in the process of restoring a 1969 Saab 96, photos of both were proudly displayed on his mobile.

He revealed that he had owned only Saabs for 25 years and his biggest regret was having sold his 1979 Saab 900 turbo to a colleague who still owns it.

I have met other Saab owners who swear by the marque and would, presumably until recently, have bought nothing else.

I have been a passenger only once in a Saab, a 1967 2 stroke 95, have never driven or wanted to own one but can somebody shed light on the Saab "magic".

Why are they so revered by their owners?

I think until GM took over, they were quirky, well built, innovative, and well thought out cars. Dad had a 1979 900 Turbo, and later I ran a 1985 Turbo. I'd happily run another one day, preferably a mid-1980s 16S.
